- Seizing future opportunities together: development and strengthening of public-private partnerships between the two countries in the area of mobility

Both the Netherlands and Germany have paved the way for modernising and making sustainable their mobility sectors. Both countries share the belief that a future-proof mobility system must be climate-friendly, intelligent and competitive. On this basis, the two countries have agreed to jointly push forward developments in the area of sustainable mobility in the near future.
The cooperation was officially launched today during a virtual kick-off event.
In the presence of Wepke Kingma, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Germany, and Johannes Wieczorek, Head of the Subdivision G2 Climate Protection in Mobility, Environmental protection at the BMVI, Prof. Dr. Henning Kagermann, Chairman of the NPM, and Marc Hendrikse, Chair of the Top Sector High Tech Systems and Materials (HTSM) of the Netherlands, officially inaugurated the Dutch-German cooperation in the area of sustainable mobility.
Wepke Kingma, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Germany:
“Although we are using different roadmaps in implementing zero-emissions-mobility, our aims are the same: a green, intelligent and affordable mobility transformation towards greater sustainability. We need to join forces and move forward!“
Steffen Bilger, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI):
“It is only when we act together that we can shape mobility in a climate-friendly way. That is why it is so important to always bear in mind the European dimension and to promote transnational projects. We especially welcome and support the new cooperation in the area of sustainable mobility between the Netherlands and Germany.”
Prof. Dr. Henning Kagermann, Chairman of the NPM:
“We need holistic solutions that take into account all modes of transport with their specific requirements and that pave the way for a climate-friendly, connected, needs-based and affordable transport system. The development of an intelligent charging infrastructure for e-vehicles as well as cross-border heavy duty traffic are topics which are currently at the top of the agenda in the Netherlands and in Germany alike and that we can further develop together.“
Marc Hendrikse, Chair of the Top Sector HTSM:
“Both Germany and the Netherlands are facing the huge task of aligning their mobility with the agreed European targets. By combining the strengths of both countries, we can overcome this challenge. Today, we are expanding the cooperation between our two countries in the area of technology and innovations which was started 10 years ago and has recently been given a new impetus with the launch of the German-Dutch Innovation Pact.”
Cluster organisations and associations, national and regional initiatives, businesses and research institutes of both countries are going to identify relevant questions and provide joint answers. On the Dutch side, the cooperation is initiated and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministries of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy as well as of Infrastructure and the Environment, together with clusters and businesses in the Dutch mobility sector, such as RAI Automotive Industry NL. On the German side, the cooperation is supported by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) and the National Platform Future of Mobility (NPM).
More than 230 representatives from German and Dutch businesses and organisations followed the keynote speeches given by Nancy Kabalt-Groot, Chair of the Dutch Formula E Team, and by Franz Loogen, President of e-mobil BW and chair of WG 1 Transport and Climate Change.
